Cooking Class with Market Tour

Shop a local market, then cook six Balinese dishes

A Balinese cooking class is one of the most rewarding half-days you can spend in Ubud. Most start with a guided walk through a bustling local market to meet the vendors and learn the spices, then move to an open-air kitchen — often in a family compound among the rice fields — where you'll grind your own bumbu Bali spice paste and cook a full menu of five to seven dishes to eat together at the end. You'll usually take home a recipe booklet too.

Highlights

  • A guided walk through a traditional pasar (market) to learn the produce and spices
  • Grind your own bumbu Bali, the island's essential spice paste
  • Hands-on cooking of 5–7 classics like sate lilit and lawar
  • A shared feast of everything you cook
  • A recipe booklet to take home
