Pura Besakih, known as Bali's 'Mother Temple', is the most important, largest and holiest Hindu temple complex in Bali — a vast sacred mountain complex of 23 major temples spread across the southern slopes of Mount Agung at 950–1,100 metres altitude. The site has been a place of worship for over 1,000 years and hosts numerous major festivals and ceremonies throughout the Balinese calendar year.

What is the entry fee for Besakih Temple?

IDR 60,000 per person (approx. USD 4). Note: you must wear a sarong and sash; these can be rented at the entrance. A donation to the temple is also customary.

Do I need a guide at Besakih?

Guides are not mandatory but are strongly recommended at Besakih due to the complex's size, the behaviour of some hawkers, and the nuances of the sacred areas. Hire through your hotel or a reputable Ubud operator.

How far is Besakih from Ubud?

About 45 km northeast of Ubud, roughly 90 minutes drive. Best combined with nearby Karangasem attractions: Tirta Gangga water palace, Sidemen Valley and Amed.
