How hard is the Mount Agung trek?

Very challenging. The summit route via Pura Besakih involves 8–10 hours of steep, technical hiking with 2,000 m of elevation gain. Good fitness is essential. The shorter Pasar Agung crater route (6 hours) is slightly easier.

When is Mount Agung safe to climb?

May–October is safest, with dry trails and better summit visibility. The volcano can be closed by local authorities or tour operators during periods of increased seismic activity — check the PVMBG volcanic status before booking.
