About Pemuteran Beach

Pemuteran is a tranquil bay on Bali's far north-west coast, about as far from the southern beach clubs as you can get on the island. It has built its reputation on conservation: the shallow house reef fronting the beach hosts the Biorock project, one of the world's largest coral-restoration programmes, where mineral-accretion structures have regrown a spectacular reef just a short swim from shore.

That reef makes Pemuteran a superb, easy snorkelling and diving base — calm, clear water full of coral, reef fish and turtles, with no boat trip required to reach the best of it. The village is also the main gateway to Menjangan Island in West Bali National Park, famous for its dramatic wall dives and pristine coral.

Onshore, Pemuteran is deliberately low-key: dark-sand beaches, eco-minded resorts and dive lodges, sunset views over a calm sea and a slow pace that rewards travellers who make the long drive north.
