About Crystal Bay
Crystal Bay is a calm, white-sand bay on the west coast of Nusa Penida, named for its exceptionally clear water. A small island guards the mouth of the bay, and the sheltered, coral-fringed shallows make it one of the best and easiest snorkelling spots on the island — you can swim over healthy reef and reef fish straight from the beach.
It is also one of Bali's most famous dive sites. From roughly July to October, cold upwellings draw the rare and enormous mola-mola (oceanic sunfish) to the deeper water off the bay, while manta rays and reef sharks are seen year-round at nearby sites, making Crystal Bay the launch point for Nusa Penida's signature dives.
On land, the bay has a relaxed beach-day feel with warungs, sun loungers and shade under the trees, and its west-facing aspect makes it a lovely sunset spot. It gets busy with day-trippers around midday, so early morning is the calmest time to snorkel.
