About Legian Beach

Legian Beach is the relaxed middle child of Bali's famous south-west coast, sitting directly between the buzz of Kuta and the style of Seminyak. It is the same uninterrupted stretch of soft grey-white sand, but with fewer hawkers, calmer crowds and a slightly more grown-up feel — which is why families and returning visitors often base themselves here. The gentle beach break is forgiving for beginner surfers, and the wide sand is perfect for an evening stroll.

The real draw is sunset: Legian faces due west, so every clear evening the sky lights up over the Indian Ocean while beachfront bars set out bean bags and cold Bintangs. A paved beach path and a string of mid-range hotels, warungs and spas run the length of the sand, and you can walk to Kuta in one direction or Seminyak in the other in about 15 minutes.

Things to do at Legian Beach

  • Learn to surf — Legian's mellow beach break and soft sand bottom make it one of the easiest places in Bali to take a first surf lesson (group lessons from around IDR 350,000).
  • Sunset drinks on the sand — Grab a bean bag at a beachfront bar and watch the sky change colour over the ocean — Legian has some of the best-value sunset spots on the strip.
  • Beach walk to Seminyak or Kuta — The flat, wide sand links three beaches; walk north to Seminyak or south to Kuta in about 15 minutes.
  • Beachfront massage — Local masseuses offer open-air foot and back massages under umbrellas from around IDR 100,000 an hour.
