Batu Bolong Beach
The heart of Canggu — long mellow waves perfect for learners, a cliffside temple at the south end, and a buzzing café scene behind the sand.
Best for: Learning to surf with a café scene
About Batu Bolong Beach
Batu Bolong is the centre of the Canggu universe — a wide volcanic-sand beach with mellow long waves perfect for learners and longboarders, a 16th-century clifftop temple at the south end, and the most buzzing café-and-warung scene in Bali behind the dunes.
The wave is forgiving (sand bottom, slow break), making it ideal for first surf lessons. The line-up gets crowded by 7 AM — most surf schools have shifted to dawn or after-dark sessions to avoid the crowd.
